Puffs (Fritters)
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1 tablespoon melted butter
1/2 cup cream style corn
1 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Separate egg, beat yolk; add milk, butter, corn and dry
ingredients. Beat egg white until stiff peaks, fold into
batter. Drop by tablespoonfuls into hot fat or oil and fry until
brown, about 3 minutes.

Nut Bread
1/2 cup boiling water
1 cup chopped dates
3/4 tablespoon baking soda
1 tablespoon melted shortening
10 tablespoons flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
Grease and flour four vegetable
cans. Pour boiling water on dates, add shortening and soda.
Cool. Beat in remaining ingredients. Pour into cans, place on
baking tray, bake at 350 degrees F. for 1 hour, or till toothpick comes
out clean. Cool before slicing. Spread slices with cream
cheese, serve with fruit for breakfast or salad for luncheon.
