2. William Eli TURNBOUGH (John Andrew ) was born about 1761 in South Carolina. He died before May 1795.

This branch of the family may have subsequently spelled the name "Turnbow" and "Turnbaugh".

William married Jane GILBREATH in South Carolina. Jane was born 1775 in Virginia. She died after 1837 in Adair County, Kentucky.

They had the following children:

3. John TURNBAUGH (John Andrew ) was born 1763 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania or South Carolina. He died 1 1825 in Lincoln County, Missouri.

1781       A John Turnbough, presumably this one, served three terms in Captain Samuel Adams               Company from Chester County.

      There is some evidence that John was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Then traveled to        Kentucky with his parents, John and Margaret, then proceeded to go onto Lincoln County,        Missouri, then to Pleasant Hill, Illinois, settling there in 1827.

1781       His father fought in the American Revolution from South Carolina.
1786-       lived in Greenville County, South Carolina. A John Turnbough was found purchasing a 323        acre tract of land on the Enorci River in district 96 in the state of South Carolina.
1790's      Family traveled westward into the French Broad Valley of East Tennessee and Knoxville.
1795       moved to Washington County, Kentucky
1796       moved to Green County, Kentucky
1802       moved to Adair County, Kentucky
1819       came from Kentucky to Pike County, Missouri
1806, found having 195 acres in the Kentucky Land Grants
1830, listed as a Pike County, Illinois landowner

John married Barbara Ann ROBINSON. Barbara was born 1767 in Franklin, North Carolina Or South Carolina. She died 1 1835 in Atlas, Pike, Illinois.

4. George TURNBOUGH (John Andrew ) was born 1766 in Chester, South Carolina. He died after 1850 in Lewis County, Tennessee.

Spelled his name "Turnbo" in his later years.
George Turnbow, born 1766 has a gggrand son named after him, George Lewis Turnbow, born 1882 who was the grandfather of Jess Lee Thompson, born 1943 who is the submitter of this family group sheet. (Note added by Jess Thompson)

George was the first of his family to come to Kentucky in the 1780's. The rest of the Turnbow family showed up in Kentucky in the late 1790's. George's brother William Eli may not have never come to Kentucky though. He was 84 years old living with his son George Jr. in Lewis county, Tennessee in 1850.

5. Isaac TURNBOW (John Andrew ) was born 1769 in South Carolina or Perry County, Alabama. He died Jun 11 1829 in Canhauba River, Perry County, Alabama.

Isaac Turnbow Pvt. War of 1812 Company Muster Roll from 15 October 1813 to 19 February 1914. Date of appointment or enlisted Oct. 18, 1813 to what time engaged or enlisted Feb. 17, 1914 present. Term of service charged 4 months 2 days. Amount 82 dollars 52 cents.

It is hereby certified that Isaac Turnbow has served as a private in a company of Mountain Rangers under the command of Capt. Hugh Kerr, in the service of the United States by requisition of Major General Andrew Jackson from the 18th Oct. 1813 to the 19th Feb. 1814 inclusive and is now honorably discharged enlisted to pay for 125 days service. Signed Hugh Kerr Capt. Commanding a company of United States Mountain Rangers pro. Tem.

WILL OF ISAAC TURNBOW

In the name of God Amen. I, Isaac Turnbow of the County of Perry and the State of Alabama, do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows; To wit,
1st.    It is my will that after my death, the whole of my estate both real and personal except such Legacies as I shall hereinafter give to my son Whiting, daughter Sallie and son Joseph be kept together and that my beloved wife Margaret have the use of the whole for the support of herself during her natural life or widowhood and for the maintenance and education of my three youngest children.
2nd.   It is my will that the stock of cattle which I have given to my son, Samuel, together with one chestnut sorrel filly be confirmed to him. 2ndly, I give to my son Whiting, one cow and calf and one heifer and one sow and pigs together with the next colt my mare may have to him and his heirs forever.

Isaac Turnbow, son of John Andrew Turnbow, received a land grant in Logan County, Kentucky in 1797. He and his wife, Margaret Tallkitten, had thirteen children. He died in 1835 in Perry County, Alabama. Descendants lived in Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan, Missouri, Utah, California, Texas, Washington, and elsewhere.

Isaac married Margaret TALKINGTON, daughter of Isaac TALLKITTEN, on 1791 in South Carolina. Margaret was born 1 1774 in Pennsylvania. She died Aug 5 1835 in Perry Co, Alabama.

8. Samuel TURNBOUGH (John Andrew ) was born 1775 in Chester County, South Carolina. He died Dec 24 1845 in Dillard, Crawford County, Missouri and was buried in Dillard Cemetery, Crawford Co., Missouri.

Samuel was in Utah in early days and joined the Church of the Latter Day Saints before coming to Utah. He said that he was a cousin to Isaac, who married Parthena Davis and that his grandfather was Andrew Turnbow, he thought.
 Found in the Dent County, Missouri, 1851-1978, Volume One, published by the Dent County Historical Society, Salem, Missouri, 1978, page 524. Note: Sam's birth noted as 1785, according to my records is inaccurate, I have him being born in 1775:
   Samuel Turnbough, forerunner of the Turnbough families of east central Missouri, was born in 1785 in South Carolina. He was married in South Carolina around 1800 and moved to Tennessee in 1802. In around 1837, the family moved to Dillard, Osage Township, Crawford County, Missouri. Samuel died December 24, 1845. His wife Jane, Born around 1781, died March 10, 1852, both are buried in Dillard Cemetary - on land settled by the Turnboughs. Samuel had selected the spot for his burial and his grave was dug by having to chisel out solid limestone rock.

Samuel married Jane CARROL on 1800 in Chester, South Carolina. Jane was born BET. 1779 - 1791 in South Carolina. She died Mar 10 1852 in Crawford Co., Missouri and was buried in Dillard Cemetery, Crawford Co., Missouri.

10. Andrew TURNBOW (John Andrew ) was born 1779 in Adair, Kentucky or S.C.. He died Oct 6 1844 in Pope County, Arkansas.

1790       Andrew's family migrated south from Pennsylvania to South Carolina, and then westward into        East Tennessee and Knoxville.

1811       Andrew and James departed from their families expedition and traveled onto Maury County, Tennessee.

1820       found in the 1820 Giles County, Tennessee census

Andrew married Grace COFFEY, daughter of Chelsey COFFEE, on Dec 6 1802 in Adair County, Kentucky. Grace was born 1 about 1785 in Prob. Wilkes Co., N C. She died Jan 13 1859 in Erath Co., Texas.

11. James TURNBOW (John Andrew ) was born Mar 22 1780 in West Virginia. He died Aug 19 1826 in Maury Co., Tennessee..

1802       moved to Adair County, Kentucky

1811       James and his brother Andrew, seperated from the rest of their family and went onto Maury        County, Tennessee. Married Felicia Coffee and the young Turnbo couple settled near Mt.        Pleasant.

1826       James died begging for water. A fine spring of living water was in forty yards of the house but        the attending physicians would not permit him to drink water for it was a custom then among the doctors not to allow their patients to drink water if they could help it. They supposed the use of water would kill them.

James married Phelicia COFFEY, daughter of Chelsey COFFEE, on Aug 2 1811 in Maury Co., Tenn.. Phelicia was born 1 Mar 13 1787 in Knox County, Tennessee. She died May 18 1865.

Clabe had traveled to California in 1849 and visited his brother, James Coffee, and his family on his way back home. He had been working in the mines in California and was making his way back home to his father's old home in Tennessee. He came all the way on foot.

      After marrying Jane they went to Texas where they lived a short time and then moved to Powhatan, Arkansas, where after a few years of residence he died leaving four children. He is buried in the old Turnbo Graveyard in Mount Pleasant.
