KNOX FAMILY

 

 

JAMES KNOX was born January 12, 1868 in Ballymoney, Antrim County, Ireland, and died December 15, 1933 in Denver, Denver County, Colorado. He married Jessie McGilvray Seerie December 23, 1896 in Denver, Arapahoe (now Denver County), Colorado, USA, daughter of Edward Seerie and Margaret McLean Duff. She was born December 24, 1871 in Eassie Farm, Parish of Eassie & Nevay, Angus, Scotland, and died January 07, 1949 in Denver, Denver County, Colorado.

Mr. Knox grew up in Ballymoney, Ireland where he attended school and studied law with Cramsie & Greer from 1885-1889. James Knox immigrated to the United States in 1888 and first settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania obtaining employment as a commission merchant for a relative who owned "Alex Knox Company."  James moved to Denver, Colorado in 1889. Wife Jessie Seerie immigrated to the United States in 1890 at the age of 18.

James Knox worked as the General Superintendent for Denver Sewer Pipe & Clay Company from 1892 to 1911.  He then worked for the Golden Fire Brick Company in Golden, Colorado as Vice-president from 1911-1932.  James was on the Moffat Tunnel Commission in the early 1920s. He was a Knight Templar, and a member of the Denver Athletic Club and Motor Club.

James and Jessie had four daughters: 

1.  Margaret Knox, b. July 3, 1899 died April 2, 1938. Burial April 5, 1938, Riverside Cemetery
     Spouse:  Victor Oswald Stailey, b. October 31, 1896, Defiance County, Ohio.
    

2.  Elizabeth Findlay Knox, b. December 1, 1901, Denver; died May 2, 1958, Los Angeles, California
     Spouse:  Robert Joseph Muth, b. January 9, 1900
    

3.  Dorothy Knox, b. June 2, 1903; Died June 6, 1947
     Spouse:  Allen Bradley Spencer, b. December 4, 1895
   

3. Janet Seerie Knox, b. ca. 1904
    Spouse:  Bernard Edward Teets
