ROBERT W. FINDLAY
Robert W. Findlay was born September 1866 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland. He immigrated to the United States in 1884 settling in Denver, Colorado. He was first employed as a draughtsman in the McGilvray Stone Company. Mr. Findlay, John Duff McGilvray, and brother James S. McGilvray co-founded the company "McGilvray & Company." Robert became a contractor and architect. Their firm did a great deal of business in California, having erected the San Francisco Call building and also the Stanford University buildings. They also built the Denver Post Office and Masonic temple and also many others of the well-known and handsome buildings of this city. Mr. Findlay was the Secretary of Colorado Portland Cement Company and a stock holder of the company. He was a Knight Templar, Shriner, and a member of the Caledonian club. Robert W. Findlay married Elizabeth E. Seerie, April 22, 1890, Denver, Colorado. Elizabeth, daughter of Edward Seerie and Margaret McLean Duff, was born July 26, 1867 in Eassie Farm, Parish of Eassie & Nevay, Angus, Scotland. The Seerie family immigrated to the United States and settled in Denver between 1885 and 1890. |

Robert W. Findlay Sr., died in tuberculosis at age 35, October 25, 1901 in Denver. The Rocky Mountain News reported: "Mr. Findlay visited many localities in hopes of improving his health, having lived in Texas, Arizona, Mexico, California and Colorado." and the Republican newspaper reported that Mr. Findlay "was an avid sportsman, and member of several gun clubs." Mr. Findlay was buried at Riverside Cemetery as a Knight Templar and Shriner on October 28, 1901. Robert and Elizabeth had two children: Robert W. Findlay Jr., and David Crochett Findlay. Robert W. Findlay Jr., born April 9, 1891, died of a heart attack, at age 46, in Laramie, Wyoming August 31, 1939. Robert was a Master Signal Electrician with the 505 Aero Squadron during World War I service. He married Edith Marguerite Kilm, December 15, 1917 in Denver. She died December 1967 in Denver. Robert Findlay Jr., was employed as an engineer for the Public Works Administration in Wyoming. He had just recently moved to Laramie from Billings, Montana. Robert Jr. was buried at Riverside Cemetery on the 6th of September 1939. Mrs. Edith K. Findlay died December 22, 1967, and was buried at Fairmount Cemetery, Denver, Colorado. Mrs. Elizabeth Seerie Findlay died at age 84, on April 4, 1952 in Denver and entombment was at Fairmount mausoleum, in Denver April 7th. On a trip with her father to Scotland in 1921, Elizabeth stated that she became a U. S. citizen October 12, 1891, obtaining her naturalization papers at the Denver County Court.
